Sears produced some of the nicest looking owners manuals in the 50s and 60s and this one is no exception. This owners manual covers four automatic washers from 1964, Series included are the 800 (8 Cycle-Alphabet Push-Button Model), 70 Series (3 Cycle-2 Speed), 600 Series (3 Cycle-2 Speed), 500 Series (3 Cycle-2 Speed), 400 Series (1 Speed-1 Cycle)
The Wizard brand was Western-Auto's brand of major appliances. This manual was a very rare find we are thrilled to get it into the Ephemera Library.

In the late 40's Norge introduced their very first automatic washer. This front loading washer was the first large capacity automatic with 18lbs of claimed capacity. The washer was a bolt-down model and we believe it utilized many Bendix produced parts. In 1951 Norge discontinued this design and introduced their own top loader with Norge built parts.

Here is the service manual created as General Electric introduced their 1950 AW6 washer design model AW6-B1. This was the last of the GE AW6 washer series with the 1140rpm spin. In '51 GE changed their washer design to their first belt-drive design.

Bendix laundry equipment became Philco-Bendix for the 1957 line after the laundry division was sold to Philco. Here is the very first Philco-Bendix branded Economat automatic washer. The Economat was Bendix's "Rubber Squeeze Tub" washer. Instead of spinning to remove the water from the clothes used a rubber tub that would collapse under vacuum pressure to press and squeeze the clothes against the perforated agitator. This model was the very last rubber tub produced.

Now this is a rare manual not to mention a rare washer. It is the service manual to the Jacobs Launderall Washer. This machine was the first and one of the few Horizontal Access Top Loading washers made in the USA. It was a bolt down machine and like Blackstone washers it the timer was a mechanical system built into the transmission. This manual is very comprehensive with specifications, cycle charts, complete descriptions of how the machine works and how to service it.
